10what's new BY ANGY ALTAMIRANO Starting April 14, entrepreneurs will have a new space to get creative in Astoria. Create NY Space, which will be located in The Aurora Gallery located at 35-18 37th St., was founded by Astoria residents Naeema Arrastia and Ron Rateau who said they saw a lack of creative space in the neighborhood. The location, which held a launch party on April 10, is expected to be the “first non-traditional coworking space” in Astoria for creative entrepreneurs to work and also meet with clients. “The goal for Create NY Space is to provide our members with a platform for their creative ideas to flow without the pressure to buy another muffin,” Rateau said. “We encourage all creative thinkers from web developers to writers and everything in between to join us.” The space offers monthly, weekly and daily rates for members who will have access to various amenities including hi-speed Wi-Fi, a beverage bar, comfortable work areas with antique or vintage furniture pieces and a meeting room. Once opened, members will also have the opportunity to take part in small business growth strategy classes, monthly networking events and member art shows. “Astoria and Long Island City are a great mixing pot of artists,” Arrastia said. “We really want to get at the root of the creative juices. It really is meant to inspire and get people thinking, and encourage collaborative growth.” APRIL 2014 I LIC COURIER I www.queenscourier.com Create NY Space will be located adjacent to the Museum of the Moving Image and accessible by the M, R, N and Q subway lines.
