Franco Emanuele of G+G
Barbershop at 46-15 Queens
Boulevard has been a barber
since he was just fourteen years old.
“I grew up in a small town in Italy, and
as a son of a butcher, I wanted to try
something different,” Franco said. “One
day I asked the local barber if I could have
a job, and he gave me an apprenticeship!”
Eventually, Franco, to Sunnyside’s gain,
fell in love with an American during vaca-tion
in the seaside town of Genoa and
moved across the Atlantic to New York.
Franco worked in downtown Man-hattan
for several years, but when the
opportunity to open up shop in Sun-nyside
–where he is a local – arose,
he took the chance.
“It was a much shorter commute,”
Franco said with a grin.
He eventually settled as partner, and
then sole owner, of G+G Barbershop.
Now 49 years later, Franco, an expert
of his craft, still provides haircuts with
quality precision and dedication as ever.
“One of my best memories is when my
long-time customer came in with his son
and grandson for haircuts,” he muses.
Franco loves to give back to the
community. Every Wednesday, for as
long as he could remember, he pro-vides
