From The Editor
I hope everyone has been staying warm
during this winter season!
We’ve got some great stories in this
issue that are perfect to read while you’re
curled up in a blanket. For our cover
story, we profile a Long Island City family
that can expertly repair all leather items.
From shoes to bags and leather chairs,
the Mesquita family have worked out of
their LIC facility since 2009 and now
work with major brands to make their
items look brand new again.
Côté Soleil, a French restaurant in
Woodside, was opened in October by
Vincent Caro. Caro is a French native
who spent several years working in New
York City restaurants before opening
Côté Soleil. He began working in the food
industry when he was 15 and worked in
restaurants in France to make pocket
money. His latest endeavor is earning
praise from Queens residents and Yelp
reviewers alike.
In neighboring Sunnyside, Boon by
Moldova is a sibling-run Moldovan restaurant
that first opened its doors in
July. The restaurant offers traditional
comfort food and fusion cuisine. Moldova,
which is bordered by Romania
and Ukraine, takes inspiration from
those countries’ cuisines along with
Russian staples.
Real estate updates, including a new
feasibility report on developing Sunnyside
Yards and improvements to Astoria Park,
are also included.
