Now she has a store of her own. Witzke, along with business partner Jillian Tangen, recently opened LIC Living, western Queens’ newest style and decor store that supplies everything from jewelry to home furnishings to gifts for children. “LIC Living is the one place in our neighborhood where you can style yourself, your home and of course, find perfect gifts for those you love,” said Witzke. “We hope to become a part of the fabric of the neighborhood by partnering with other local businesses, and being a place where neighbors convene and get a chance to connect and support the local economy.” Tangen and Witzke met as neighbors and discovered they shared a common vision of opening a lifestyle store in LIC. They began mapping out plans for a store in May of 2012 and by the summer, they were actively searching for a space. They opened their doors in November. “We are both residents and both moms in the neighborhood,” said Witzke. “We moved here because we love it, but we also noticed the neighborhood’s deficiencies, namely, lack of inspiring retail.” Prior to opening their store, Tangen was importing items for clothing brand Chillnorway for a store in Williamsburg. Witzke worked in retail as a manager and an assistant buyer, getting her start in Princeton, New Jersey. While LIC Living’s bestselling items are their Tocca candles, Izola flasks and Chillnorway clothing, the owners feel they are a one-stop-shop for today’s woman. “In our store, you can literally come in, find an outfit to wear to a party, as well as a housewarming gift for the same occasion,” said Witzke. “It truly is a one stop modern take on a department store.” LIC LIVING 53-5 51st Ave, LIC 718-361-5650 www.licliving.com PHOTOS BY ALEX DIBLASI
