OUT & ABOUT
BY JILL DAVIS
November’s a busy month! First, we remember
our veterans on Veterans’ Day, Thursday,
November 11. And Happy Hanukkah, which
begins very early this year on the evening of
November 28.
Thanksgiving falls on November 25.
Here’s a little humor to share at the table.
Pass the mashed potatoes and have wonderful
holidays!
“Most turkeys taste better the day after; my
mother’s tasted better the day before.” – Rita
Rudner
“Thanksgiving, man. Not a good day to be
my pants.” – Kevin James
“For those of you who cannot be with family
this Thanksgiving, please resist the urge to
brag.” – Andy Borowitz
“You can tell you ate too much for
Thanksgiving when you have to let your
bathrobe out.” – Jay Leno
“My cooking is so bad my kids thought
Thanksgiving was to commemorate Pearl
Harbor.” – Phyllis Diller
RADIO CITY CHRISTMAS
SPECTACULAR
Radio City Music Hall, Manhattan
msg.com
Now through Sunday, January 2
Daily @ 11am, 2pm, 5pm, 8pm
After an unfortunate hiatus in 2020, the
big show is back with the Nutcracker,
Santa and, of course, the legendary
Rockettes. This really is a show for kids
of all ages. Tip: The first 10 Orchestra
rows or so are known for making the
audience crank their neck up high to see
the stage (kind of like the front row at a
movie theater). The best seats are generally
mid-Orchestra, around rows MM
to ZZ and the 400 section is dead center.
Children under 2 are free but must sit
on the lap of their parent or guardian.
Tickets for everyone else can be pricey
($85 +), but you can probably get coupons
at: nycinsiderguide.com.
VETERAN’S DAY PARADE
Thursday, November 11, 11:00 am
Starts at Fifth Avenue and 26th Street
Let’s not forget our veterans! This annual parade is
hosted at the Eternal Light Monument in Madison
Square Park on Fifth Avenue and 24th Street. After the
traditional opening ceremony in the park, more than
300 groups and 20,000 participants march the parade.
The parade starts on 26th Street and 5th and marchers
will walk up to 46th Street.
LE HAVRE
ANNUAL ART
LEAGUE SHOW
Sunday, November
14, 11 am-3 pm
Le Havre Clubhouse
718-767-2277
Le Havre is once
again hosting a lovely
afternoon of art
where local artists will be exhibiting (and selling) their
work. Media include painting, photography, jewelry
and more. It’s a great way to enjoy a Sunday complete
with live music and raffles for prizes. You don’t want
to miss it. (P.S. Entry is free!)
AIR SUPPLY IN CONCERT
Saturday, November 20, 8 pm
NYCB Theatre at Westbury
thetheatreatwestbury.com
Fans of 1980s soft rock can breathe a little
easier: Air Supply is returning to the stage after
numerous rescheduled tour dates. They were
very successful in the US, having had eight
top-ten hits here, but they were an even bigger
deal in their native Australia, where they were
inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2013. Tickets
start at $49.50.
GENESIS IN
CONCERT
Friday, December
10, 8 pm
UBS Arena, Belmont
Park, Elmont
ubsarena.com
Genesis was inducted
into the Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame
in 2010, but this
tour is the first time that Phil Collins, Mike
Rutherford and Tony Banks have played together
in 15 years. The name of their tour, The Last
Domino?, hints that this reunion might be their
last. Just saying. Tickets start at $150.
CONCERT FOR
BANGLADESH
REVISITED
Friday,
November 26,
8 pm
Tilles Center,
Brookville
tillescenter.org
Some of us might
be old enough to remember George Harrison’s 1971
megawatt concert at MSG which featured superstars
such as Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan and Ringo Starr.
Long Island-based band Wonderous Stories will lead
a full choir, horn section and more to play the original
concert in its entirety. They promise to have some special
guests as well (not yet announced at press time).
Tickets start at $42. In keeping with the holiday spirit,
a portion of the proceeds will go to St Jude Children’s
Cancer Hospital. Note: Guests must have proof of full
COVID-19 vaccination (final dose 14 days before the
event). Check out the website for more details.
PORT HOLIDAY
MAGIC
Saturday, November
27
Main Street, Port
Washington
portwashingtonbid.org
Getting in the holiday mood should be easy in
Port Washington as shops all along Main Street
offer holiday specials and discounts. There will
be live outdoor entertainment and Santa will do
a drive-by on a fire truck. Shoppers can get a lift
too on a free trolley ride from one end of Main
Street to the other. Other details weren’t available
at press time, so go to Port Washington’s
website as the date gets closer.
