ELIAS CORNER (A Revisit)
BY HELENE OELERICH
I last wrote about Elias Corner a couple of years ago, and it’s so good
it’s worth reviewing again. In a nutshell, this Greek restaurant in Astoria
with no menu is one of the best seafood restaurants in NYC. My family,
friends and I revisit time and time again! In fact, when my brother would
visit us from California, he would let us pick him up at the airport, but
only if we would stop and eat at Elias Corner first, and then come to
our home!
This old school, homey experience with simple Greek food is prepared
using fresh, large portions and always serves whatever comes in
from any part of the world on the day you arrive! The staff will tell you
what is available and you can choose from the front area of the restaurant
to choose what you want to eat.
There is swordfish, monkfish, stripped bass, Chilean sea bass, red
salmon, oysters, octopus, Branzino and shrimp, just to name a few. The
lobsters are wonderful, as is the soft shell crab, kebabs and many other
dishes. You may have your dinner grilled or fried. The veggies and fried
potatoes are wonderful too, and you must have their Greek salad with
dressing...fabulous!
The restaurant doesn’t accept credit cards (cash only!). You can buy
wine or drinks, and you may also bring your own wine for a $10 corkage
fee. There is also a back patio to eat in the nice weather. The restaurant
is kid friendly and offers free parking. They don’t take reservations, so
come early so you don’t have to wait for a table.
Elias Corner located at 24-02 31st Street in Astoria. The hours are
Monday-Friday from 4pm-Midnight and Saturday-Sunday from 12
Noon-Midnight. Visit their website at eliascorner.com or call 718-932-
1510 for more info.
See you soon at Elias Corner!

Show Dogs
Saturday, October 13, 1pm
Max, a macho, solitary Rottweiler
police dog (voiced by Ludacris), is
ordered to go undercover as a primped
show dog in a prestigious Las Vegas
dog show along with his human partner
(Will Arnett), to avert a disaster from
happening. Rated PG
Director: Raja Gosnell
Writers: Max Botkin, Marc
Hyman
Stars: Will Arnett, Ludacris,
Natasha Lyonne
“The film captures a playful tone
from the beginning and hangs on to
it for the duration…Dialogue is funny
and fast, and Max makes for a memorable
lead… Ludacris voices the animal
with enough attitude to give him an
edgy personality but also enough of
a heart and friendly vibe to make the
character accessible, fun, and memorable.”

Solo: A Star
Wars Story
Friday, October 12, 3pm &
7pm
In this second ‘Star Wars’ standalone
spin-off, we find a young
Han Solo on an adventure into the
criminal underworld. Emerging
demand for hyperfuel and other
resources has put Solo in the middle of a heist alongside
other criminals, where he meets his future co-pilot
Chewbacca and encounters Lando Calrissian years
before joining the Rebellion. Rated PG-13
Director: Ron Howard
Writers: Jonathan Kasdan, Lawrence Kasdan
Cast: Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson,
Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover
“‘Solo’ has a kicky, kinetic heist movie at its
heart, and its action sequences are machine-tooled
spectacles of the first order. Its performances, starting
with Alden Ehrenreich as the young Han Solo
and extending to the film-stealing Donald Glover as
his wily frenemy Lando Calrissian, are consistently
entertaining.” ~ Andrew Barker, Variety
Mama Mia!
Here We Go Again
Friday, October 26, 3pm & 7pm
Taking place five years after the original Mama
Mia!, this musical rom-com centers on Sophie
(Amanda Seyfried) as she prepares for the grand
reopening of her mother’s hotel while expecting her
first child. Worried that she won’t be able to handle
everything on her own, she enlists two of her mother’s
friends for guidance, and along the way learns more
about her mother’s past (Lily James as young Donna)
and faces a surprise visit from her grandmother,
whom she’s never met. imdb.com Rated PG-13
Director: Ol Parker
Writers: Ol Parker, Richard Curtis
Cast: Lily James, Amanda Seyfried, Meryl
Streep
“Everything old is shockingly, stirringly new again
in “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” the rare
sequel so unexpectedly enchanting that it plays less
like a rehash than a reclamation…James, who made
a brief, winning singing debut in Disney’s live-action
“Cinderella” (2015), shoulders the frontwoman
duties here with real verve…” ~ Justin Chang, Los
