S E P T E M B E R Summer is over, which is sad news for many. But there’s good news too: Clubhouse movies and bingo are back!
The Clubhouse presents two new movies each month, playing on Fridays at 3:00 and 7:00. Plus, a special matinee is
playing on a Saturday afternoon for the kids. And bingo returns on alternating Wednesdays. Enjoy!
Book Club
Friday, September 14, 3pm & 7pm
Diane (Diane Keaton), Vivian (Jane Fonda),
Sharon (Candice Bergen) and Carol (Mary
Steenburgen) are four lifelong friends who,
many years earlier, began a book club. They
meet once a month and each member takes a
turn picking the book they are going to read that
month. At the start of the current month’s book
club, Vivian is tasked with picking the next
book. She chooses ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’. The
others, particularly Sharon, are not happy about
having to read it, but they reluctantly choose
to—which leads to a lot of surprises for everyone
in the group. imdb.com Rated PG-13
Director: Bill Holderman
Writers: Bill Holderman, Erin Simms
Cast: Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, Mary Steenburgen
“Comedically spry as it is surprisingly wise about having a lot to live for
even beyond middle age, ‘Book Club’ knows what it has in its acting pros
and lets them freely work the blue material. Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda,
Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen all receive equal billing, as they
should…it boggles the mind that these women have never worked together
because they feel like the oldest of friends…’Book Club’ is refreshing proof
that age really is just a number.” ~ Jeremy Kibler, The Artful Critic

Ocean’s 8
Friday, September 28, 3pm & 7pm
The apple doesn’t fall from the tree.
Remember Danny Ocean from the “Ocean’s
11” movies? Well, his younger sister Debbie
(Sandra Bullock) is fresh out of prison and
decides to pull off the heist of the century—
stealing a diamond necklace worth $150 million—
at New York City’s star-studded annual
Met Gala. But first she enlists the aid of seven
cohorts to help her pull of the robbery, including
Lou (Cate Blanchett) and Daphne (Anne
Hathaway). Rated PG-13
Director: Gary Ross
Writers: Gary Ross, Olivia Milch
Cast: Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway
“…Slickly paced and radiating sexy glamour, ‘Ocean’s 8’ moves with the
swagger of a supermodel prancing down the runway….the sheer brazenness
of the crime in ‘Ocean’s 8’ is enough to put a goofy smile on your face. But
as is always the case in heist movies, the sustained thrill of the high-wire
act comes from watching the players lay out their complex plan, then seeing
whether it actually goes as smoothly as they’d hoped…you can turn your
brain on or off watching ‘Ocean’s 8.’ Either way, you’ll have a blast—and
you’ll be counting the days until the next job.” ~ Christy Lemire, rogerebert.

Kids Movie: Peter
Rabbit
Saturday, September 15, 1pm
This animated film is based on the books
by Beatrix Potter. Peter Rabbit (James Corden)
and his three sisters, Flopsy (Margot Robbie),
Mopsy (Elizabeth Debicki) and Cotton Tail (Daisy
Ridley), along with their cousin Benjamin (Colin
Moody), are enjoying their days harassing Mr.
McGregor in his vegetable garden. That is, until
one day Mr. McGregor dies and no one can stop them roaming across
his house and lands. However, when one of Mr. McGregor’s relatives
inherits the house and goes to check it out, and he finds much more than
he bargained for. What ensues is a battle of wills between the new Mr.
McGregor and the rabbits. But when he starts to fall in love with Bea
(Rose Byrne,) a real lover of all nature, his feelings towards them begin
to change. But is it too late? imdb.com Rated PG
Director: Will Gluck
Writers: Rob Lieber, Will Gluck
Cast: James Corden, Rose Byrne
“…Peter Rabbit manages to keep the gentle spirit of the original stories
alive. It ultimately forsakes comeuppance in favor of acceptance —
and does so in somewhat unpredictable ways. Ultimately, it’s a fine line
that Gluck & Co. walk: They’ve managed to bring just enough anarchy
and wiseassery to this beloved character to infuse him with fresh life,
but without draining the material of the generosity and softness that
have allowed it to endure in the first place.” ~ Bilge Eberi, The Village
Voice.
