N E W S M A Y 6 L E H A V R E At Last! Come Memorial Day, the long wait it is over. Everyone in the pool! This season, the pool is under new, professional management. So expect to see new faces in the lifeguards stands. Elite Pool and Fitness Management, a locally owned firm that operates faciliities in Nassau, Suffolk and all five boroughs, will be handling the pools at Le Havre starting this year. The firm started in 2006 with a contract to handle the Towers at Water’s Edge pool.. It now manages pools for country clubs and communities in all five boroughs as well as Nassau, Suffolk and Rockland counties. Andrew Meditz, one of the owners of Elite and the swim team coach as St. Francis Prep in Fresh Meadows, promises that the staff of lifeguards will be recruited from the neighborhood. “We run our own training and certification programs,” he says. “The kids are top notch and we know them all before we hire.” Elite will operate the pool with a crew of seven to 11 lifeguards and support people in the beginning, when only one of our pools will be open. When the second pool opens in late June, the staff will increase to 15, Meditz says. “It doesn’t make financial sense to have two pools open until school is out,” he says. The pools have been opereated in the past by an inhouse manager. Elite, which also runs an event planning business, says it is looking forward to throwing three or four poolside parties this summer. “Our children’s carnivals and casino night are very popular, if I do say so myself,” says Meditz. 6 LEHAVRE COURIER | MAY 2014 | WWW.QUEENSCOURIER.COM LEHAVRE COURIER/File Photos
