Democratic Primary — Tuesday, June 28. “Before coming to the United States, my family couldn’t vote — they didn’t have a voice. I believe every person should have a voice in their government.” When the Islamic Revolution took place in 1979, Anna was sent to the U.S. at the age of 13 as part of an international effort to help Jewish children of Iran escape persecution. Separated from her family for more than a year, Anna lived with a foster family, learning English from “Happy Days” and “General Hospital,” before she was reunited with her parents and brothers. Anna and her husband have raised two daughters in Great Neck, where Anna has been active in the public schools, libraries and synagogues. On the North Hempstead Town Board Anna fought to make housing more affordable for seniors and young families, renewed local infrastructure, and is proud to have been among the first to officiate same-sex marriages in North Hempstead. In Congress Anna will: » Work to make college affordable for every child on Long Island and in Queens » Raise the minimum wage, fight for paid family and medical leave, and hold the line on taxes for middle-class families » Fight for equal pay for equal work and stand up for women’s health » Support our troops and work to provide suitable housing for every wounded warrior » Always stand with the State of Israel “ I believe in giving back to this country that has given me so much. “ – Democrat Anna Kaplan Paid for by Kaplan for Congress AnnaKaplanForCongress.com /AnnaMKaplan @kaplan4congress 6 LEHAVRE COURIER | APRIL 2016 | WWW.QNS.COM
