J A N U A R Y Toys for Tots 2019: BY JILL DAVIS
It was almost as if Santa’s workshop had been
moved to the Clubhouse on Sunday, December 15,
when Le Havre hosted its 29th annual Toys for Tots
fundraiser. Local businesses once again donated generously,
and Le Havre residents poured in to make
this yet another successful event.
DJ Mario returned once again to provide music to
get the kids and their grownups in the holiday mood.
Children got busy crafting gingerbread houses and
everyone enjoyed a hearty lunch catered by Saige
Diner, which included yummy sliders and very
tasty French fries. And if that weren’t enough, pizza
arrived from Cascarino’s. Santa made his entrance
and posed with the children for some cool photo ops.
Oh, yes, and the Marines, ably represented this year
by Sgt. Lawson Chong and Sgt. Marquis Johnson,
were again on hand to pose for pictures and, more
important, deliver the oodles of gifts to kids in need.
Sgt. Chong noticed the warm atmosphere in the
Clubhouse. “A lot of Toys for Tots events are held at
businesses,” he said, ‘but this is more relaxed, more
‘family.’ You can feel this is where everybody lives.”
And, in that family spirit, this was truly a team
effort. Le Havre donated the pizza, use of the
Clubhouse, and took care of DJ Mario’s fee (discounted
for the fundraiser). Urbn Playground donated
the fixins’ for the gingerbread houses, catering
from Saige Diner and Urbn Playground staff, which
included clubhouse manager Ydania and assistants
Leo, Anthony, Libby and Johnny from the Le Havre
Maintenance Department. Fitness instructor (and
Le Havre resident) Lori served as a cracker jack
volunteer elf.
A terrific raffle offered a large assortment of goodies.
Special thanks go to Le Havre resident Joan
Barber who once again helped coordinate the raffle.
Foodies went for the donations from Villagio and
Tasty Grill, while those who want to be pampered
were excited to see the contributions from Sunshine
Spa & Hair and Zen Salon. As always, the fundraiser
was a great success and surely gave lots of kids a
very happy holiday! Thank you everyone!
Santa’s workshop is buzzing!
