Fast & Furious
Presents: Hobbs &
Shaw
Friday, January 17, 7:30pm
Lawman Luke Hobbs (Dwayne “The Rock”
Johnson) and outcast Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham)
form an unlikely alliance when a cyber-generically
enhanced villain threatens the future of humanity.
imdb.com Rated PG-13
Director: David Leitch
Writers: Chris Morgan, Drew Pearce
Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba
“Johnson and Statham became the most entertaining things about this
franchise years ago, and they know how to lean into their on-screen personas
perfectly. In a sense, it’s an old-fashioned ‘80s buddy comedy, but with
modern technology and sensibilities…Elba matches the two leading men in
the charisma department—a tough thing to do…As critics have said before
about similar projects, it’s a movie to eat popcorn to and leave your worries
at the door. While the rap on Hollywood is that they are now in the business
of making product instead of movies, ‘Hobbs and Shaw’ is one of the most
fun shiny new products of the season.” ~ Brian Tallerico, rogerebert.com
Gemini Man
Friday, January 24, 7:30pm
Henry Brogan (Will Smith) is an elite assassin
who’s ready to call it quits. His plans turn upside
down when he becomes the target of a mysterious
operative who can seemingly predict his every
move. To his horror, Brogan soon learns that the
man who’s trying to kill him is a younger, faster,
closed version of himself. imdb.com Rated PG-13
Director: Ang Lee
Writers: David Benioff, Billy Ray
Cast: Will Smith, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen
“The idea of Smith playing two versions of himself -- one a fully
realized human being while the doppelganger has been trained to
dismiss feelings of pain, emotional and physical -- works splendidly…
technically, ‘Gemini Man’ surpasses the digital cosmetic surgery behind
Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman…An Oscar nomination for Visual
Effects ought to be a no-brainer…Whether younger or his current age,
Smith allows comedy to heighten the appeal of his character…Above
all, the scenes between Smith and Winstead made me believe in ‘Gemini
Man’…Winstead was simply outstanding...“ ~ Richard Jack Smith,
