The full history of a Full House star from Queens
In conjunction with the
Greater Astoria Historical
Society, the TimesLedger
newspaper presents
noteworthy events in the
borough’s history
Born on July 28, 1964,
Lori Anne Loughlin is
an actress best known
for her role as Rebecca
D on a l d s on-Kat s op o l i s
in the ABC sitcom Full
House. She has also since
appeared in numerous TV
shows including Seinfeld,
The Drew Carey Show
and 90210. Her husband,
fashion designer Mossimo
Gianulli, is the founder of
the Mossimo clothing line.
In March 2019, both
Loughlin and Gianulli were
arrested in connection
with a nationwide college
admissions cheating
scandal. It is alleged that
the couple paid a $500,000
bribe to a sports coach at
the University of Southern
California for their
youngest daughter, YouTube
sensation Olivia Gianulli,
to gain admission to
the school.
Born in Queens and
raised in Hauppauge on Long
Island, Lori Loughlin was
interested in acting from
a young age. At age 11, she
went to a modeling agency
in Manhattan with a family
friend and, to her surprise,
was herself offered a print
modelling contract.
At age 15, the Queens
native first appeared on TV
in the ABC soap opera The
Edge of Night. Throughout
the 1980s, the young actress
appeared in a number of
feature films and guest
roles on other television
shows.In 1988, Loughlin
began her seven-year-run
on the popular sitcom Full
House. Initially cast for
six episodes, she was kept
for the remainder of the
series and her character
eventually married
John Stamos’ character,
Jesse Katsopolis.
Soon after Full House
ended, she co-starred with
fellow Long Islander Tony
Danza on another ABC
sitcom, Hudson Street.
The show, however, was
cancelled after one season.
Since the 1990s, Loughlin
has guest starred in a
number of other major
network sitcoms, including
Seinfeld, Spin City, Suddenly
Susan and The Drew Carey
Show. More recently, she
co-created, produced
and starred in the 2005
drama series Summerland
on the now defunct WB
Television Network.
In 2007 the experienced
actress returned to ABC to
co-star in the sitcom In Case
of Emergency alongside
David Arquette. Starting
the following year, she costarred
in the first three
seasons of the Beverly Hills
90210 spinoff 90210.
At the time of her arrest,
Lori Loughlin starred in
the series When Calls the
Heart and Garage Sale
Mystery on the Hallmark
Channel, as well as the Full
House sequel Fuller House
on Netflix. Both networks
severed ties with Loughlin
after the arrest, and the
technology firm Hewlett-
Packard removed her and
her daughter Olivia from
their advertising. In April
2019, both Laughlin and her
husband pled not guilty to
charges of fraud.
In a television and film
career spanning nearly
forty years, the actress
has appeared in nearly 50
television programs and a
number of films. In 2016,
Loughlin’s career came full
circle when she returned
from Los Angeles to New
York City to appear in an
episode of the police drama
Blue Bloods. Throughout
her career, she has won
numerous awards for her
acting performances,
including two Young Artist
Awards in the 1980s as well
as a PRISM Award in 2006 for
best performance in a drama
series in Summerland.
