TONY BUDNEY, SR.,
CONCIERGE (RETIRED)
I couldn’t resist tracking Tony down and hearing what
he had to say. First thing he said was, “Jimmy’s definitely
a character,” laughing. But then Tony became earnest.
“Jimmy looks out for the new guys and helps them as
much as he can,” he said. “Jimmy’s an institution. He’s a
great guy and makes work interesting. He’s always looking
out for everybody.”
IAN HINDS, CONCIERGE, 21 &
41 BUILDINGS
Jimmy trained Ian and over that time he learned a couple
of things about Jimmy that some people might not
know. Lots of us know he loves the Mets but, “Jimmy
loves the Jets and the 49ers,” Ian said. “He’s crazy about
the Kentucky Derby.” Sorry Jimmy, I know this has been
a tough year for sports. ~ Editor
Ian continued, “Thanksgiving is his #1 holiday. He’s
very family oriented and he loves his grandkids.” About
Jimmy at work, Ian said, “People look up to him and ask
his advice,” he said. “He’s very knowledgeable. He’s very
truthful and to the point. And he’s a fun guy.”
STEPHEN TEODORU,
CONCIERGE, 21 BUILDING
It seemed appropriate to conclude this article with Stephen,
since he has taken over Jimmy’s spot. “I learned
a lot from watching Jimmy work,” Stephen said. “From
the day he trained me to the day he retired, there was no
shortage of lessons.” He continued, “Of all the things I
watched him do, I won’t forget this: He truly cared about
every person that walked through these lobby doors, and
to me that was most important. He made sure that everyone
was taken care of, even me, and for that I owe him.”
Stephen said he had one thing he wanted to say directly to
Jimmy. “Jimbo, if you’re reading this, when I get over the
bridge I owe you a beer. Which brings me to another important
lesson of his: Hit the road quick, or you’ll never
get over that bridge!”
I will wrap up now and say simply: Jimmy, on behalf of
all the residents and staff here who love you, respect you
and already miss you deeply, even though it didn’t rain
on your last day here in beautiful downtown Beechhurst,
there were many tears falling at Cryder Point. Thank you,
Jimmy, for all that you’ve done for us. Stay well, stay safe,
and enjoy your retirement.

Hope that’s a winning ticket, Jimmy!
All these years and all I get is a slice of pizza?
