SEPTEMBER 7
Photo of the Month
WWW.QNS.COM | SEPTEMBER 2020 | CRYDER POINT COURIER 7
BY JILL DAVIS
Congrats to Joe Hollander for September’s Photo of the Month,
Joe’s early morning photos—this one taken at 5:30am!—always
capture a bit of mystery…
Thanks also go to Michael Conte and Marsha Gellert for their
beautiful summertime photos. Michael’s pictures offer two impressionistic
views of the bridge. Meanwhile, Marsha took this
photo the evening of August 4 (Tropical Storm Isaias, remember?).
Hard to believe the area had just gone through a pretty
mighty storm!
Remember, if you venture out for a walk alone (or six feet apart)
and happen to see something that catches your eye, please take a
photo. The weather is improving and a few pictures to remind us
of nature’s beauty are always good for the spirit.
A reminder about the contest rules:
The photographer must be a resident of Cryder Point, and all
photos must of the property or of a view from the property. They
also must be current, that is, taken no more than a couple of
months before you submit them.
Any description of where you were on the property, the day
of week or time of day…any details that you can provide which
bring your neighbors into the moment of the photo…are eagerly
welcomed.
Submit your pictures to jdavis@qns.com and yours might be
selected to be featured in the paper. Please be sure to put “Cryder
Point Photo” in the subject line of your email and include the
full name of the photographer and an approximate date of the
picture.
Our own Dining Diva, Helene Oelerich, is venturing out again and recently shared a couple of her recent de-lish outdoor dining experiences. Thanks Helene!
VIVO!
Vivo! was Helene’s choice for a celebratory
birthday dinner last month. She reviewed
the restaurant back in July, 2017, when it
first came under its current management. In
her column, Helene wrote, “Vivo’s menu
includes very fresh and delicious meals
with a variety of appetizers, salads, and
main dishes…the service is excellent and
extremely helpful!” Three years later, Vivo!
is clearly keeping up with that high praise.
Vivo! is located at 20-10 Cross Island
Parkway near the Throg’s Neck Bridge. It
is open Tuesday through Sunday for dinner
from 5pm to 11pm and on Sundays
for brunch from 11am to 3pm. It is closed
on Mondays. Call 718-352-2300 for more
information.
WHITESTONE DINER
Helene went more casual for
a delicious brunch at the “new”
Whitestone Diner, which recently
went under new management.
Online reviews are
consistently excellent (just
look at Helene’s photos and
you can see why). In addition
to the great food, Helene commented,
“It’s so nice to sit in
their outdoor garden.”
Whitestone Diner is located
149-21 14th Avenue.
Hours are 7am-11pm daily,
and they also deliver to our
area. Call 718-746-6761 for
Helene enjoys dining al fresco more info. Brunch anyone?
