C R Y D E R P O I N T SEPTEMBER 8 8 cryder point courier | SEPTEMBER 2013 | WWW.QUEENSCOURIER.COM BY JOHANN HAMILTON He’s lived in Cryder Point his entire life, and wouldn’t have it any other way. Born on March 28, 1996, Frank Avalone is an only child. However, he feels that living in Cryder Point has provided him with something better – friendships that will last a lifetime. These friends, specifically fellow Cryder Point residents Kate, Rachel and Melina, have all grown up together and have a bond that Avalone holds dear. “I'm an only child, but I've never felt that way,” he said. “That’s because my friends were always right across about the hall from me. We used to play outside together all the time, and now when we see other little kids playing around Cryder we have flashbacks of when we were that age.” Whether it’s going on cruises to the Bahamas together or just hanging out by the pool, this friendship is a very big part of Avalone’s life. Despite all going to different high schools (Avalone himself is a senior at St. Francis Prep) the four have remained very close, and will soon be embarking on the next big journey – college. “The best part about growing up here is definitely having all of my close friends nearby throughout my whole life,” Avalone said. “My high school experience has been pretty good, and it’s going to be bittersweet leaving, but I'm planning on coming back and visiting. I’ll definitely miss a lot of the people and residents who live here who I've grown up with, though.” Friendship isn’t the only thing Avalone is passionate about, however. He is also an avid swimmer and is the captain of the swim team at St. Francis Prep. He lifeguards at the Cryder Point pool, and likes to spend time at his family’s beach house in Delaware. After starting lessons at age 9, Avalone began swimming competitively one year later, and it quickly became his favorite sport. In fact, he says that his idea of a perfect day simply involves spending the day with his friends relaxing on the beach. “The most important thing in the world to me is to be a nice, happy person who's surrounded by a lot of friends,” he said. I like to enjoy youth and enjoy life. That means not just sitting around on a couch and watching TV all day, but actually going out and experiencing things.”
