C R Y D E R P O I N T FEBRUARY 6 Baby, It’s Cold Outside! We all face the challenges of the winter season: snow, ice…and cold. But each of us has a different tolerance to cold and heat (have you seen the TV commercial where the husband turns down the thermostat and the wife turns it up?). This can make living in a building a challenge, and we strive to maximize everyone’s comfort in their homes. As previously announced, Cryder Point instituted a heating policy this winter season: 65 degrees at night (10pm – 6am) 72 degrees during the day-evening (6am – 10pm) These levels are well above the NYC heating requirements of 55 degrees at night/68 degrees dayevening. To help maintain warmth in your apartment, there are some things all residents are asked to do: AIR CONDITIONERS • Is your air conditioner in the window? A lot of cold air seeps through air conditioners; wherever possible, the best solution is to have them removed during the heating season. The Management Office can help you make arrangements to do this. • If removal isn’t practical and you must leave your air conditioner in the window, it should be covered inside (and outside if possible) to help block cold air from coming in. Foam core boards placed over the unit on the inside and insulating foam around the sides of the unit can also help block the wind. RADIATORS • Are all of your radiators turned on? You may not even know if the valve is open or not, so if you think that might be the case, call your Doorperson to have this checked. 6 cryder point courier | FEBRUARY 2013 | WWW.QUEENSCOURIER.COM • Are your radiators obstructed? Blocking the airflow with furniture or other objects will significantly reduce the amount of heat the room receives. WINDOWS • If you’re chilly, double check that all of your windows are shut all the way; even leaving them open slightly will allow a lot of cold air to come in and will cool the room quickly. Please remember that the boilers cycle on and off to maintain a consistent level of heat--they do not remain on constantly. If your apartment is not warm enough, call your Doorperson to have a temperature reading scheduled and your issues will be addressed. We thank everyone for their cooperation. RINGING IN 2013 Cryder Point held its annual New Year's Brunch on Sunday, January 6. It was a great time for friends and neighbors to mix, mingle and wish one another a happy, healthy New Year.
