COVID-19 REMINDERS
JANUARY 2021
Update: As officials anticipated, increases in Covid cases in
New York are occurring as the effects of the holidays are
being seen. According to the New York City DOH website (nyc.
gov), as of January 1 the positivity rate in NYC was 9.31%.To
put that in perspective, the rate was 5.47% on December 1.
Officials expect the numbers to continue to go up through at
least mid-January.
Please remember:
At Cryder Point, face coverings are NOT optional
Residents, guests, visitors and delivery people must
wear a face covering when in common areas
This applies to all common areas of all buildings
Use a scarf or bandana if a mask is not available
Stay at home
Avoid travel and out-of-state visitors as much as possible.
Limit your outside activities to the necessities such as
going to the grocery store.
Wash your hands often
Message from the
Board President
I’m going to focus this month’s message on what’s going on with
Covid (not my favorite subject).
While there is great cause for optimism with the introduction
of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, the rollout has gotten off to
a slow start, distribution is clunky at best and vaccination rates
are falling far short of planned goals.
In all likelihood, the roadblocks will be cleared up in the
near future, but in the meantime there has been a discouraging
increase in Covid cases over the past month. As you’ll see
in the updated Covid Reminders on this page, officials expect
positivity rates to continue to rise as we see the ongoing results
from the holiday season.
In addition, a new strain of the coronavirus has been identified
in the US and has reportedly reached New York. Its main difference
from the Covid-19 virus is that the new strain is more contagious.
However, experts say it’s not more lethal, and they are very confident that the current
vaccines will be effective against this new strain. Nevertheless, a more contagious virus has
the strong potential to increase positivity even more than it already has been.
All of that is to say, it is as important as ever—if not more so—to follow CDC guidelines
for prevention to the best of our abilities. Below are some reminders for your reference.
CDC Guidelines: Testing and Tracing
If you test positive, the CDC advises that you stay quarantined at home except to receive
medical care.
It is highly recommended that you be tested if you have been in close contact with someone
who has been diagnosed with the virus.
If you live in a multi-person household, all residents in the household should be tested and
abide by the quarantine—even if one person does not exhibit symptoms of the virus, they
may be carriers and spread it to others.
It is recommended that you tell neighbors and friends who you’ve been in personal contact
with recently. This will help to trace the virus and stem any potential outbreak in the
complex.
Do not permit anyone into your apartment unless there is an emergency. For their safety,
potential visitors must be told of your condition beforehand.
More detailed information can be found on the CDC’s website at www.cdc.gov.
How Management Can Help
Residents who have tested positive are urged to report their condition to the Management
Office as soon as you are diagnosed so that they can be helped during quarantine. Please also
remember that reporting your condition helps protect your neighbors.
It is our intention to keep your information confidential. Metro Management has advised
that identifying information cannot be divulged unless you or someone in your household
breaks quarantine protocols, which would create a health hazard to others.
CPOC staff can have deliveries and/or mail delivered outside your door.
You may also call to have a porter pick up your trash outside your door so that you do not
need to go to the compactor room.
Call Bridget Matus in the Management Office (718-767-5003 Ext. 2) with any questions
about assistance.
Also note that information is changing constantly. Management and the Board will do
their best to keep everyone informed. Please contact Management if you have any questions.
Be well and stay safe.
Till next time, Jill Davis

“We’re All About You”
Use regular soap and water for 20 seconds (that’s two
verses of “Happy Birthday”).
Use sanitizer as a second choice if soap isn’t available.
Keep your distance
No congregating!
Always practice social distancing, i.e., stay 6 feet away
from the next person, even if you are wearing a mask
If you don’t feel well
Seek medical care if you are not feeling well for 3 to 4
days.
Unfortunately, not everyone is tested for the virus.
The symptoms vary widely, so it’s difficult to tell if you
actually have the coronavirus if you have not been tested.
However, you will likely be advised by your medical professional
to self-quarantine. It is imperative that you do
so until you are medically cleared.
Notify Management so that you can be assisted, e.g.,
having your trash picked up outside your door.
