Visitors to Barbados’ Kensington
Oval cricket ground will soon be greeted
by a statue of another of the island’s
and West Indies’ cricketing legends
standing along with that of Sir Garfield
Sobers, the image of Sir Wesley Hall.
The Barbados Nation newspaper has
reported that Prime Minister Mia Mottley
will on Nov. 29 unveil, next to that
of Sobers, an eight-foot statue of the
former tear-away fast bowler who put
terror in the hearts of batsmen across
the world from 1958 to 1969 in 48 Test
matches.
“The statue will be erected on a
slightly lower platform next to Sir
Garry, who is a National Hero, and Sir
Wes will be next to him on the side
by the Hall And Griffith Stand, which
of course he is associated with,” said
Chris deCaires, a member of the planning

Former West Indies Captain, Darren
Sammy has urged cricket’s governing
bodies to treat racism more seriously
and pay it some attention in the integrity
of the game.
Sammy, who led the West Indies to
two Twenty20 World Cup titles, has
been at the forefront of the movement
in cricket and wants those who run the
game to do more.
Sammy told a news agency in Trinidad,
where the Caribbean Premier

CWI money
problems

Cricket West Indies (CWI) is still in
very rough financial waters, according to
CEO Johnny Grave while speaking on the
Mason and Guest Cricket show in Barbados
recently.
Giving an update on the organization’s
finances since the 50 percent wage and
funding cuts across all sectors of regional
cricket three months ago, Grave said that
things are still “extremely challenging.”
However, he said, the austerity measures
taken by CWI were having the desired
effect.
“We put some short-term recommendations
that we made to the board of
directors back in the end of May. We’ve
implemented all those to the extent our
business continuity plan on the back of
