West Indies suffered a crushing
defeat against India in the opening
Test at the Sir Vivian Richards
Ground in Antigua over the weekend.
The regional team was bundled
out for their sixth lowest-ever total
against India, as the team crashed to
an embarrassing 318-run defeat on
the penultimate day on Sunday.
A poor batting display saw the
Windies collapsed to 100, all out after
they were at one stage 50 for 9, handing
India their biggest-ever away victory
in terms of runs.
Set an improbable task of scoring
419 runs for victory on the fourth
day after India declared on 343 for
seven, an hour after lunch.
The home side was ripped apart
by a fast bowling spell from Jasprit
Bumrah who snatched five wickets

voted Player-of-the-Year, during seventh
annual West Indies Players Association/
Cricket West Indies Awards, held at
Sandals Grand Antigua Resort and Spa
in Antigua last week.
He also copped the Test Player-ofthe
Year award, having led the Windies
to a Test series win over England earlier
this year, while Shai Hope took the ODI
Player of the Year trophy and Keemo
Paul won the Twenty20 Player-of-the-
Year award.

CPL begins
Sept. 4 in T&T

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL)
dubbed the “biggest party in sport,” will
bowl off on Sept. 4, 2019 at the Queen’s
Park Oval, in Port of Spain Trinidad.
The defending champions Trinbago
Knight Riders (TKR) will be coming up
against the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots

he final match is slated for Oct. 12,
2019.
Due to the India tour of the West
Indies, the CPL management has seen
it fitting to reschedule the starting date
of the CPL to accommodate all the star
players for the regional showpiece.
CPL Chief Operating Office, Pete
Russell disclosed that the 2019 CPL will
focus on Caribbean players, especially
the young players.
