The boys of the Barbados
Defence Force moved
closer towards being the
island’s Premier League
2019 champions when
they stung the reigning
two-time defending champions,
Weymouth Wales
2-0 Sunday to gain the
edge following a draw in
the best of three battle.
These teams emerged
the best sides of the two
groups of the Barbados
Football Association senior
men’s competition, played
on a round-robin format
and are now battling it out
in three games to earn the
title of best club this season.
Weymouth topped Zone
One with 41 points, and
BDF headed the list in
Zone Two with 52 points.
In the first of the three
encounters last week they
fought to a 2-all draw, with

in second encounter
Sunday night at the Astroturf
in Wildey, St. Michael,
though Weymouth should
have emerged the winner
if the number of players
on the field was anything
to go by.
But against all odds
BDF registered the victory
though they ended the
game with only nine players
on the field playing
against Weymouth’s full
11.
BDF registered the first
goal of the game in the
second minute thanks to a
shot from captain and senior
national player Raheim
Sargeant.
Akeem Hill got red-carded
in the 33rd minute for
hitting an opposing player.
In spite of the army boys
taking the field for the second
half with one player
short Weymouth could
have done nothing to capitalise.
Instead the BDF’s second
goal came in the first
minute of the four added
for injury-time through
the boot of striker T’Shane
Lorde.
Another violent play by
a BDF player Renaldo Trim
saw him being sent off in
the 94th minute just before
the full-time whistle.
BDF now hold a 2-0
advantage through goals
scored and the Weymouth
Wales players will have to
beat the army boys by a
clear three goals to claim
the 2019 championship
when they meet Sunday
for the final game.
