RED FORCE SCORES RECORD VICTORY Broadcast deal

Veteran West Indies opening batsman,
Chris Gayle and fast bowler, Fidel
Edwards have been recalled for the
three-match Twenty20 International
series against Sri Lanka starting this
week in Antigua.
Barbadian Edwards, 39, returned
to the team after nearly 10 years of
internationals cricket, while Gayle has
returned to the international set up
after nearly two years out of the side.
Uncapped Guyanese off-spinner,
Kevin Sinclair has been named in the
14-man squad for both the Twenty20
and One-Day Internationals, which will
be led by Kieron Pollard but there was
no room for all-rounder, Andre Russell
who only recently recovered after contracting

COVID-19.
Left-hander Shimron Hetmyer, who
has starred for Guyana Jaguars in the
Super50 Cup in Antigua, was not considered
for selection for the squad after
failing a fitness test.
All-rounder Roston Chase along
with fast bowlers Sheldon Cottrell and
Oshane Thomas were also overlooked
after failing fitness test, one of the
major selection criteria.
The selection of Edwards was the
surprise name in the Twenty20 squad,
especially since he only recently
announced his intention to represent
West Indies again.
Edwards, who played 50 Tests and
50 One-Day Internationals, departed
Hampshire last year and subsequently
turned out for Jamaica Tallawahs, grabbing
nine wickets at an average of 25
and an economy rate of 7.5 runs per
over.Gayle, who returned from playing
in the Pakistan Super League, has not
featured for West Indies since India’s
tour of the Caribbean in 2019 when he
made 87 runs from three innings in the
three-match ODI series.
Chief selector Roger Harper said
Gayle still brought “great power” to
the T20 squad, while Edwards added
“potent power” attack.
Left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein, who
made his One-Day International debut
against Bangladesh has been named in
both squads along with Test captain,
Jason Holder.

who defeated him and ended his sixyear
tenure back in 2019, have not
demonstrated the kind of leadership
some had hoped to see.
The former CWI president said he
still has not seen anything that this
new administration has given him
any confidence to say they are the
right team to go forward.
Last month, Sanasie announced
his candidacy for the post of president,
saying that the time is right for
new “visionary leadership.” Cameron
said his choice was based on the track
records of both men.
Cameron said he was not sure how
to grade Skerritt, 62, and Shallow, 35,
because “they didn’t tell me what they
were going to do, apart from moving
me from office. So on that basis, they
have won, but I am not sure what else
they have been able to do.”
“Hope and Anand have demonstrated,
Barbados cricket and Guyana
cricket are leading cricket nations in
our region and if they can transfer
what they have done at their respective
territorial boards to WI cricket,
we can only move forwards,” Cameron
said.
age of all West Indies international
home matches and regional tournaments

television and digital platforms.
As part of the agreement, West
Indies cricket will now be seen in
more than 54 African countries and
islands, including South Africa, Zimbabwe,
Nigeria and Kenya.
SuperSport’s coverage starts with
the Sri Lanka series, which starts
in Antigua this week, with three CG
Insurance T20 Internationals.
The agreement also includes the
rescheduled visit by South Africa
to the Caribbean in June 2021, a
tour that had to be rescheduled from
July 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
CWI also recently signed broadcast
agreements with ESPN+ for the
United States market and with BI
Sport for the United Kingdom and
Ireland matches.
ball innings before he was the fourth
man out.
Simmons registered the highest
score of this year’s tournament, as well
as the highest score by a Trinidadian
in the 46 years of the event-surpassing
the 134 made by Denesh Ramdin in
2013.
It was also the second century of this
year’s tournament and lifted the Red
Force to their second highest score of
all time and the fifth highest total in
the Super50 history.
Skipper Kieron Pollard (23) and
former captain Denesh Ramdin (27)
further demoralized the Guyana Jaguar
bowlers with a 48-run partnership in
only 28 balls as the Red Force put up
an imposing 362/5.
Red Force fast bowlers Anderson
Phillip, Raving Rampaul and Jayden
Seales, made early inroads into the
Guyana top-order.
Rampaul struck a heavy blow in the
6th over, when he got semi-final centurion
Shimron Hetmyer, caught behind
for 20 off 12 balls.
The dismissal triggered a big collapse,
as Guyana Jaguars would lose
five wickets for only 15 runs in the
space of 27 balls.
With 40 overs to go, the Jaguars
were already staring down the barrel of
a heavy defeat, and the dream of winning
their first 50-over title since 2005
was dashed.
Raymond Reifer put on 71 for the
night wicket with Gudakesh Motie (28)
and then, with just three run short of
his maiden century, watched helplessly
as Seales bowled Nial Smith for a duck
to clinch victory for the Red Force.
T&T played unbeaten in the tournament,
winning all five of their preliminary
rounds matches, the semi-final
and the final.
