St.Francis of Assisi Catholic Academy (SFACA) located
in the Prospect/Lefferts Gardens area of Flatbush has
been an educational beacon for 112 years. Following in
the footsteps of St.Francis of Assisi, this gem steeped
in the Catholic tradition of excellence enables students
through its faith formation program to develop a
deeper understanding of the teachings of Jesus while
cultivating a deeper relationship with Him.
At St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Academy we use a
whole child approach to educate our students. In order
to form the fabric that makes up each child we seek to
weave together their intellectual, affective, social and
physical natures.
Utilizing the NYS Next
Generation standards for its
core subjects (ELA, Mathematics, Science and Social
Studies) and believing that children are not born with all
the intelligence that they will ever have SFACA has been
committed to enhancing its educational curriculum
by incorporating some of these intelligences through
music, art, technology and physical education. In this
same vein, the Academy participates in Stages on the
Sound, Performing Arts Residence every year. Through
this Residency students in various grades gain enriching
experiences working with artists in playwriting, film
making and dramatization. In addition, the students,
faculty and staff of St. Francis create and participate in
phenomenal Christmas and Spring Show productions.
We also develop every child’s spiritual intelligence by
understanding and cherishing values and ethics such
as honesty, integrity and fair play that allow the true
authentic self to flourish. This is especially honed
through the continuous presence of Religious Sisters
at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Academy.
With 1-1 laptops, St. Francis uses technology to
transform the traditional classroom experience into
student-centered experiences that allows students to
take an active part in their own learning.
The staff consists of dedicated educators and the
Academy has been blessed with the continued
presence of the Sisters of St Joseph since the school
opened in 1909.
Tuition assistance is available through Futures in
Education and the Alumni Scholarship Program.
