West Indies coach, Phil Simmons
has described Sheldon Cottrell’s
lucrative Indian Premier League
(IPL) contract as “life-changing”
but says he does not expect it to
affect his career.
Cottrell, a left-arm fast bowler,
was snatched up in the auction last
month for US$1.2 million by Kings
XI Punjab, making him one of the
most expensive buys for this year’s
competition.
“It will definitely be life-changing
for anyone who gets a million
dollars to play cricket,” said Simmons,
a former West Indies allrounder,
adding, “I don’t think it
is life-changing because he knows
where he is at with West Indies
cricket and he is the premier fast
bowler right now in West Indies
white-ball cricket.”

Holder
sidelined

Former One-Day International captain
Jason Holder has been omitted from
the West Indies squad for the first two
ODIs of the three-match series against
Ireland which started this week.
The fast bowling all-rounder is the
only change to the Kieron Pollard-led
team, which went down to India last
month on the subcontinent.
West Indies chief selector Roger
Harper said Holder’s engagement in all
three formats meant it was important
he was afforded the opportunity “to
recharge his batteries.”
”The decision was taken to rest Holder
due to the heavy workload he has had
over the last year,” Harper explained.
Holder led West Indies in ODIs for
more than four years but was sacked
