BRONX TIMES REPORTER,BTR SEPT. 17-23, 2021 33
Opening Day For
AFC Rapid Soccer
BY GRACE CERINI
AFC Rapid Soccer season
is back. On this beautiful
Sunday, Sept. 12, the games
began again with the Peewees
ready to learn and play.
It was so wonderful to see the
children excited about soccer
and kicking the ball around
while making new friends.
Parents were just as excited
as they cheered and took pictures
of their little ones.
BANTAMS
Bantams took their turn
next with Barino’s winning
their fi rst game against
Burns and Rodriguez. Goals
from Sam Anastasiou, Ghali
Dahib, Emanuele DiMaggio,
Logan Lozada, and Corde
Robinson. Alexandria Altamirano
was the goalkeeper
in the 1st half and kept a clean
sheet along with Michael Deluca,
Isabella Sanchez and Jason
Befanis in front of her on
defense. Other good performances
from Nicholas Nikci,
Charli Carozza, and Gianni
Timoneri.Charlie’s Angels
came out strong with a 5-2
win over Side Streets Sports.
Sabrina Ben Mansour scored
2 goals and her sister Leila
scored 1 goal. Olivia Ramos
had an amazing assist for one
of those 3 goals scored. Michael
Guarnieri scored the
other 2 goals. John Sigmund
with the tremendous saves on
goal.
MINORS
Minors teams All Time
Detection played a tough
match against Bronxville
Auto winning 2-1 with Anthony
Monti making some
great saves throughout the
game. Ryan Faulkner made
the 2 goals to win their fi rst
game along with all his teammates
Hailey Herrera, Noah
Esdelle, Bianca Vukdedaj,
Victoria Gazivoda, Jordyn
Straussman, Peyton Catacutan,
Jameel Lang, Jayleen
George, Michael Leromenachos,
Noah Mendoza and Elijah
Mcneil.
BOYS MAJORS
The D’Abbraccio Foundation
boys had an amazing
win against Global Terminal.
In just their fi rst game, they
played great both offensively
and defensively. Connor Delatorre
was goalkeeper, as
well as scoring a goal in the
second half. Edward Varges
played tough at midfi eld, and
even better as goalkeeper
in the second half, including
a great save on a direct
penalty kick. Will Schwartz
scored 2 goals and passed
beautifully to his teammates.
Danny Lopez and Justin Barberan
helped out their offensive
tremendously, each scoring
a goal. Giuseppe Mineiro
played at midfi eld both helping
out the defense and scoring
a goal on offense. While
on defense, Joseph Tucci and
Jason D’agostino both played
tough and hard, helping to
hold the opposing team to two
goals. Also as midfi elders,
Jayden Lopez and David Cruz
continuously made great
plays as well. We are excited
to play out this season with a
wonderful group of boys and
look forward to the weeks to
come!
GIRLS MAJORS
Cardinal Spellman HS
played a tough game, losing
our fi rst one to Capital Shield
Agency. Being short 3 players
with no subs, the girls put
up a great fi ght on a very hot
day until the very end. Kailey
Siegmund played amazing on
offense, scoring 2 goals, along
with Izzy Smith who scored a
goal as well. Sofi a Miles and
Mya LaValle split the game
as goalkeeper, both making
great saves in each of their
halves. They had great protection
on defense by Teagan
Connolly (who played her little
heart out on her birthday)
along with Annie Jones and
Jadelyn Sanchez and never
gave up. Angelina Rodriguez
played tirelessly and tough
from beginning to end. We’re
very proud of the girls, ending
Game 1 to a great season
to come!
Capital Shield Agency
took their fi rst win against
Cardinal Spellman HS with
a tough game that was non
stop action throughout. Goalkeeper
Emily Negron did a
great job for her fi rst game
with defensive players Emma
Kurtovic and Isabella Perry
working hard to stop players
from coming through to
take shots. While offensive
players Danielle Shack and
Lillian Kavanagh dribbled
the ball up taking shots on
goal but Spellman’s goalie
wouldn’t let them through
until Amber Kurtovic came
up on the side and scored the
fi rst 2 goals. Spellman didn’t
let that stop them and scored
right back, tying the game.
In the second half, Daniella
Mosca, Neomi Gonzalez,
Mia Lappe and Iliana Torres
assisted in the next goals
scored by Lillian with 1 goal
and Amber with 2 more. Ending
the game 5-3. Great job by
both teams.

So, it seems like COVID is
still here. It doesn’t matter if
you are vaccinated or unvaccinated,
you can still transmit
COVID and contract COVID.
With that in mind, I wanted to
let you know that there are safe
ways to avoid getting sick.
Front Line Covid-19 Critical
Care Alliance (FLCCA) is
a wealth of information. If you
have not visited their site, you
should check out what they
have to say. It is information
that is not readily available.
The only way to make educated
decisions is to have all of the
information that is available.
Unfortunately, when it comes
to COVID-19, trying to get the
facts will make your head spin.
FLCCC is one of the sites that
may help you sort things out.
If you know me, you know
that I am always looking for
natural solutions to our health
issues. I have been lucky to
fi nd many but it requires an
awful lot of research. I also
believe that you must be proactive
with your health. Don’t
wait until you are sick but instead
do all that you can to
maintain your health. It takes
a lot of work but it is certainly
worth it.
There are ways to boost
your immune system so that
you have a better chance of not
getting sick. Eating healthy
foods and exercising are critical.
More fruits and vegetables
and much less sugar and processed
foods will help to keep
your immune system strong.
FLCCC suggests supplements
that will help you ward off COVID
19 and other illnesses like
the fl u. They suggest taking
Vitamin D3 1,000-3,000 IU/per
day; Vitamin C 500-1,000 mg
twice daily; Quercitin 250 mg/
per day; Zinc 30-40 mg/per day
elemental zinc, Melatonin 6 mg
before bedtime (causes drowsiness).
FLCCC advises that if you
should test positive for COVID,
you should seek immediate
treatment. The problem
is that it is near impossible to
fi nd a doctor that will treat COVID
19. That is despite the fact
that all doctors take an oath to
do no harm. Not treating COVID
could very likely prove
fatal. The earlier you receive
treatment the better chance
you have of surviving. If you
go to their website you will fi nd
a list of doctors that will treat
COVID. It is important to have
a plan before you get sick.
All of us, vaccinated or unvaccinated
should take precautions.
Please stay safe and stay
healthy.
NEVER FORGET
On Sept. 11, 2021, we marked
20 years since our country was
attacked by cowardly terrorists.
It was a sad day as we remembered
and prayed for all of
the lives lost on that day.
As I watched the coverage
of the 9/11 tragedy, I couldn’t
help but be encouraged by the
heroic acts of so many. First
responders ran into burning
buildings to rescue as many
people as they could. Some
knowing they probably would
not survive. People like Todd
Beamer became heroes as they
united with others to defeat
the terrorists’ plans of destruction.
It is a reminder of what
we can accomplish if we work
in unity. It also is a reminder
that when faced with tragedy,
New Yorkers will pull together
to help each other.
May God bless the heroes of
9/11 and all of those who perished
on that fateful day. May
God bring peace to the families
of the fallen.
