GREEN SHEIKH PAYS VISIT TO CS55
On July 21, Green Bronx Machine hosted the “Green Sheikh” at CS 55. Abdulaziz bin Ali Al Nuami from the ruling family of the United Arab Emirates is known as a dedicated humanitarian
and philanthropist. He spoke with students on such topics as eating to live and not living to eat. Food equality is a must and he preached standing “for freedom and dignity.” “Whatever
your color, whatever your religion, you are born free,” he said. “No one is the boss. Only the one that you worship, God; no one else.” Stephen Ritz also spoke about the group’s COVID-19
response in which they held online food classes, delivered more than 100,000 pounds of food and built three food pantries. He talked about his relationship with the Green Sheik and
their work together. Vegan food, which was grown in the classroom and in the community, was there to be sampled and was prepared by a young adult named Jily from Green Bronx
Machine and Manan LaRaia. Attendees enjoyed fresh salad, watermelon, Bok Choy Dumplings (in which the recipe was handed out), herbs, vegan potato chips, vegan dips and more
