on Thursday, March 5. In 2016, Councilman King introduced legislation in the City Council to add amendments stating that African Americans are 100% human and declaring March 5 as
Three-Fifths Clause Awareness Day, in response to the law in place during the 1700s and 1800s. Both legislations passed on March 5, 2017.

BP DECLARES AMERICAN RED CROSS MONTH

On Wednesday, March 4, Bank of America presented a $50,000 grant to Covenant House,
a Bronx non-profi t organization which shelters young adults who are homeless, assisting
them in expanding their education, securing jobs and maintaining good mental health,
among other services.
On Monday, March 9, Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. proclaimed the month of March as
‘American Red Cross Month’ in the Bronx. March is known annually as national Red Cross
Month. It was fi rst established in 1943 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to raise awareness
of the organization and its humanitarian mission, with every U.S. president since following
in the tradition.

Earlier this month, the Bronx River District Boy Scout Merit
Badge Rally and Cub Scout Belt-Loop Bonanza was held at St.
Helena Catholic Church. The cub scouts learned about the role
and importance of search and rescue dogs.
