A date is on the way
for Belly Bomber Bingo
at Bronx VA, volunteers
needed and appreciated;
Don’t forget the annual
St. Patrick’s celebration,
9 a.m. Mass at St. Benedict,
10 a.m. breakfast
downstairs then parade
down the avenue Sunday,
March 15, stepping
off from Lafayette and
East Tremont at noon as
usual.
Note: That’s the 3rd
Sunday, so our regular
Post 253 meeting will be
on March 22 the following
Sunday, same time,
at ATNY.
Friday, April 17 is our
big Support the Troops
Fundraiser (bingo and
more) courtesy of Sam
Young AL Post 620. Helpers
needed the Thursday
evening before for set up
and then that Friday afternoon
for fi nal prep before
the evenings activities.
Kinda bad news.
Aunt Cathy reported
yet another increase in
USPS postage for sending
boxes to the troops.
It’s now closing in on 20
bucks per box and no improvement
on delivery
time. This means it is
most important to help
make this annual fundraiser
event a success.
‘Until They All Come
Home.’
Sick call: Past Commander
Tommy Murary
is recovering out west
from a serious medical
encounter. We know he
will get well soon and we
will keep in touch (a/k/a
- give him a hard time). I
had the pleasure of being
his 1st vice and remember
all of the fun (over
the top) functions he ran
for our post and to benefi
t Bronx veterans. Feel
better, speedy recovery
to Judy too.
Until next time: SAL
253 Operation Pride,
Flag Replacement #1
completed. Thanks Joe
F. for your sincere concern
in memory of our
fathers.
This month marked
the 75th anniversary of
the battle for Iwo Jima.
U.S Marines of the 3rd,
4th and 5th divisions
landed after days of naval
bombardments and
air strikes to prep for
the landings, the enemy
was dug in deep which
resulted in days of fi erce
combat before the island
would be considered
secure. The Marines
raised our fl ag on the
top of Mt. Suribachi, the
highest and most strategic
position on the island.
The photo taken by
Joe Rosenthal is one of
the most iconic pictures
ever taken,and remains
a signature of the United
States Marine Corps.
Semper Fi.
Nominations for all
offi cers billets will be
held for the next two
months resulting in elections
and appointments
in May. Attend your
meetings and make your
voice heard so we can
continue to move forward
and carry out the
mission of the American
Legion. Friday, April
17 we will be hosting
Bingo For The Troops,
all proceeds from this
go directly to ship care
packages to our troops
serving in harms way.
There is no better cause
I can think of. That’s all
for now.
We are stronger as
one, let’s work together.
God bless America.
