Kelly Clarkson announces PS 103 choir as NBC winners
In a surprise announcement
for dozens of Bronx elementary
school students,
international music superstar
and NBC daytime television
host Kelly Clarkson
announced that the PS 103
Ensemble Stars student chorus
was selected as the NBC 4
New York Star Choir contest
winner. Clarkson shared the
news during Tuesday’s episode
of “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
The performance aired during
the Christmas in Rockefeller
Center broadcast at 7 p.m. on
Wednesday, after press time.
“Nearly 60 choirs entered
WNBC’s Star Choir community
competition, representing
the geographic and demographic
diversity of our
Tri-State area,” said NBC 4
New York President and General
Manager Eric Lerner.
“They were amazing performers
and displayed remarkable
passion, energy and excitement.
However, one choir
rose above them all, and we
are thrilled that the students
of PS 103 have been awarded
this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
The PS 103 Ensemble Stars
are comprised of 35 students
from the North Bronx elementary
school. Active in their local
community, the singers
have performed at nursing
homes, community events and
on the observation deck at 1
World Trade Center. Their repertoire

receive $10,000 in donations to
support their national performance,
including a $5,000 personal
donation from Clarkson
which was matched by “The
Kelly Clarkson Show.”
“Our kids have gone
through so much during the
time of COVID – and for many,
they are still getting used to
seeing their friends in person,”
Choir Director Antoine Dolberry
said. “From the time we
got the fi rst email from WNBC
inviting us to participate to the
day we hit send and submitted
our audition tape, our kids
poured their hearts into this
effort. They always dreamed
of a chance to do something
big and fulfi ll their wildest
dreams. We are extremely
grateful for this opportunity
and cannot wait to represent
our North Bronx community
on a stage that is truly unlike
any other.”
Entries in the Star Choir
competition were accepted for
youth singing groups residing
within WNBC’s viewing areas
in New York, New Jersey, Fairfi
eld County, Connecticut and
Pike County, Pennsylvania.
The winning choir will be required
to comply with all current
COVID-19 protocols.
