5-ALARM FIRE ON GRAND CONCOURSE
On the evening of Friday, October 4, a fi ve-alarm fi re broke out at 1555 Grand Concourse.
The fi re started on the top fl oor of the six-story building before spreading
to the ceiling and the roof. More than 200 fi refi ghters, along with several EMS units,
responded to the scene. It was reported that nine fi refi ghters were injured, along with
one civilian. The Red Cross displaced 23 adults, 12 children and multiple pets.

WOMAN FOUND STABBED IN HER BED
At around 8 a.m. on Sunday, October 13,
40-year-old Luz Perez was found dead
by her two children at 519 E. 187th Street.
Perez’s children, a fi ve-year old son and
a two-year old daughter, discovered Luz
stabbed to death in her bed, before banging
on the window of their apartment. A
passerby saw them and called 911, before
police responded to the scene. The city’s
medical examiner’s offi ce will determine
the exact cause of Perez’s dead, although
crime scene investigators believe that
the attacker repeatedly plunged a screwdriver,
or a similar object into Luz’s body.

GUNSHOTS FIRED ON WEBSTER AVENUE
On Friday, October 4, a shooting took place inside of the mezzanine area of the 167th
Street and Grand Concourse subway station, following a dispute between a woman,
who was accompanied by her child, and 25-year old James Cubille. The woman was
also accompanied by another man, who shot Cubille in the stomach. The man fl ed
from the subway station and ran northbound on Grand Concourse. The police eventually
arrested 29-year old Rafael Hollis in connection with the shooting. Cubille,
who was the father of the child, was pronounced dead upon arrival at a nearby
hospital. The woman and the child were not injured during the incident.
