On Sept. 6, Banana Kelly Community Improvement Association, Humanity Coalition and Hip
Hop BLVD presented a Back to School Supplies Giveaway to the community. The goal was
to get the community ready for a new school year; the event was held at 830 Fox St. in the
Bronx. Children picked their bag of choice, posed for a photo and danced to some music.

ANNUAL BACK TO SCHOOL BLOCK PARTY
The annual Union Grove Missionary Baptist
Church back-to-school health and community
awareness fair, centered on health and
safety ahead of the new school year, took
place on Saturday, Aug. 28, featuring Choose
Healthy Life (an initiative of United Way of
New York City), and Facebook NYC. The block
party community event offered a day fi lled
with food, fun, music, COVID-19 vaccines and
more.

On Aug. 28, New York State Assemblyman Kenny Burgos and Youth Ministries for Peace &
Justice hosted the annual Morrison Plaza Back to School Block Party.At the event, children
received bookbags, other school supplies, snacks, prepared food, haircuts and masks. “It
can be very expensive for families that have multiple kids,” Burgos said. “They will have a
nice fresh haircut, fresh supplies, brand new bookbags, produce in the fridge and hopefully
have a nice little family moment.”
