NYPD hosts back to school bag giveaway
NYPD Community Affairs with
Bronx Community Partnership
Council, the Fordham Road Business
Improvement District and Mc-
Donald’s teamed up to hold a Back
To School Book Bag Giveaway. On
Aug. 18, children received bookbags
with school supplies and the
excitement on their faces was priceless.
There was a stand where attendees
could receive barbecued hot
dogs and drinks. The hot dogs were
prepared on the site by some of the
police offi cers. Attendees received
tickets to snacks and desserts from
different vendors at the event.
There was an ice cream truck for
those who loved frozen treats, a
bakery called Cupcake Me that
gave out a 16-ounce cake jar of your
dessert of choice with three fl avors.
Others received coupons for a free
happy meal with any purchase at
the East Tremont McDonald’s, located
at 599 E. Tremont Ave. There
was also an ASPCA Animal Rescue
table that handed out free dog food.
FDNY’s Fire Safety Educational
Unit had a table and provided valid
information for children and adults.
The informational books were not
just educational but fun. The Bureau’s
Youth Strategies Division
tent was present offering information,
giving out hand sanitizers and
other needed items. The division offers
programs geared toward preventing
drug use, reducing violence
among young adults and focuses on
building relationships with them.
It was evident how much community
members were smiling and enjoying
themselves. There were even
a few dance competitions where
young adults had an opportunity
to showcase their moves. Although
there were winners, everyone who
competed received an award.
