Leadership at Triboro Center on Teller Ave. has started a new activities program in order
to sharpen eye and hand coordination among its residents. The program “Triboro Center
Brain Enhancement” is not only geared towards those with early dementia and Alzheimer’s,
but also those who have suffered a stroke, a falls and/or other brain degenerative diseases
and injuries.
Triboro Center residents have a small Dominoes tournament.

PREP FOR SCHOOL
On Aug. 20, Vishnu Mandir and The Bharati Foundation in partnership with New York City
Councilwoman Vanessa Gibson and several community partners presented the 6th Annual
Backed By A Bag: Food Distribution and School Supplies Giveaway. There was amazing music,
promotion of literacy through school supplies, food distribution and encouraging the
community to stop the violence.

On Aug. 12, Banana Kelly Community Improvement Association, Inc. held a meet and greet,
walking tour and book signing event with Harold DeRienzo. DeRienzo is the author of “Building
Homes-Building Communities and Preventing Civil War,” which is about community coming
together to build in the midst of the phase that we refer to as “The Bronx Is Burning.”
