JUNETEENTH FLAG RAISING CEREMONY
AT VIRGINIA PARK
Local elected offi cials, community and law enforcement members and residents joined in
commemorating the end of slavery in the United States at the Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony
on Monday, June 3 at Virginia Playground. The holiday, also known as ‘Juneteenth Independence
Day’ or ‘Freedom Day,’ commemorates the June 19, 1865 announcement of the
abolition of slavery in Texas and the emancipation of enslaved African Americans throughout
the former Confederate States of America.
The National Anthem and the Black National Anthem were both sung by Priscilla Crowell (c).

TO HEALTH
ATTENDS FAIR
The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers
of America and New York Health
Works joined Senator Alessandra Biaggi’s
Housing Resource Fair at P.S. 83 on Friday,
June 7 for the ‘Roadmap to Health’ program
event. The Roadmap to Health program
launched in January with an inaugural event
in the Bronx and has continued to provide
information and resources to New Yorkers
to help empower individuals with knowledge
about their health.
