Tuesday night, Schneps
Media’s Rapid Fire Debates
kicked off on PoliticsNY with
Skye moderating two events,
one for NYC Council District
11 and the other for Council
District 15 – both in the Bronx
– with special elections slated
for Tuesday, March 23. The
winners of the election next
week will fi ll the vacant council
seats immediately. There is
another election for the same
seat, the democratic primary
in June, and the winners of
that election will then assume
the seat come 2022.
CD 11: Six candidates are
vying for the city council seat
vacated by former Councilman
Andrew Cohen. The Riverdale
neighborhood natives faced
off in what began as a lighthearted
and playful debate. As
the candidates warmed up to
Schneps Media’s informal and
informative style, moderator
Skye Ostreicher then posed
two unique questions to each
candidate: name a competitor
of yours on this screen that
you’ve worked with successfully
to achieve a goal. Surprisingly
few of the candidates
could speak to having worked
together in the community.
The second question: pick a
competitor of yours on this
screen and be critical. Call
them out on something, and
the criticized candidates had
one whole minute to respond.
This debate question transformed
the on-screen event
into a Bravo TV-style reunion
show with Andy Cohen, and
how ironic that these candidates
are competing for “Andy
Cohen’s” city council seat! We
won’t name the winner and
loser of this heated argument;
you must check it out and decide
