
PRAYER VIGIL IN RESPONSE TO
41ST PRECINCT SHOOTINGS
Last week, a prayer vigil was held in response to the recent shootings that took place inside
and outside the 41st Precinct and resulted in injuries to police offi cers. The prayer vigil
was attended by council members Ruben Diaz, Sr., and Rafael Salamanca, and Senator Luis
Sepulveda, among others.

DINOWITZ PASSES OUT
REUSABLE BAGS
In response to New York’s plastic bag ban beginning on Sunday, March 1, Assemblyman
Jeffrey Dinowitz helped distribute free reuseable bags provided
by the NYC Department of Sanitation to residents at the Riverdale Y Senior
Center.

BIAGGI, LEHMAN COLLEGE ANNOUNCE
$340,000 GRANT FOR SCHOOL
Senator Alessandra Biaggi and Lehman College held a press conference on Thursday, February
20 to announce $340,000 in funding to the college, which will be used to organize and
expand Lehman’s existing composting infrastructure to reduce the amount of food scraps
and gardening waste sent to city landfi lls and to increase Lehman College’s substainable
business practices.

MONTH
JASA commemorated Black History Month with a
Soul Train-themed celebration which was held at
JASA’s Einstein Senior Center in Co-op City and
featured a dance perfomance by JASA’s vibrant
dance group the Olettes, who honored the 101st
birthday of JASA’s Einstein Senior Center resident
Gloria Rowe.
