Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping the future of medicine, and is becoming an increasingly integral
part of the detection and diagnosis of disease. But will it be replacing the need for humans in radiology?
The answer is no. We work side-by-side with AI to produce results that neither a person, nor a machine, is
capable of independently. AI uses sophisticated computer algorithms to help us make better predictions,
analyze data more efficiently and reduce diagnostic errors. Computer-aided detection (CAD), for example,
is used in breast imaging to improve the radiologist’s ability to find even the smallest breast cancers at
their earliest stages.
The other side of radiology is the human touch. Artificial intelligence can never replace those words of
comfort that help patients get through an MRI exam or a breast biopsy.
