Firefighters were in
hog heaven last week
when a fire at a Brooklyn
warehouse set loose some
potbellied pigs.
At 1:23 am on March
24, FDNY personnel responded
to a call regarding
a two-alarm blaze at
Jabus Building Corps, located
at 98 Van Dyke Street
in Red Hook. Firefighters
got to the scene and were
met with heavy fire and
smoke in the back of the
one-story brick building.
The building was storing
masonry and construction
equipment on
site sight since the 1980s.
Firefighters used four
hose lines to knock down
the bulk of the fire.
A few potbellied pigs
were found and rescued
from the smoky scene, and
first responders were spotted
trying to corral them.
The fire was brought
under control by 2:59 am.
Three firefighters were
taken to local hospitals
for their injuries. The Fire
Marshal’s office will determine
the cause of the fire.
