In January 2017, Our Lady of Mercy School
celebrated its 55th year as a Catholic elementary
school in the Hicksville area. We currently serve
students from Nursery through eighth grade
from their own parish as well as students from

Library has come a long way from its origins
as an 18-book collection founded by members
of the women’s suffrage movement in 1914.
In addition to a large and varied collection of

abilities. The Library’s all-season Inside/Out
Garden, located directly across from the main
entrance, hosts performances and programs,

always growing and innovating— The Studio,

For teachers like Kathleen Harrigan, educating
young minds isn’t a job; it’s a calling. Harrigan
has been at OLM for 24 years. She began at
OLM teaching 3rd grade for two years, then
moved up to the 5th grade (taught 5th grade
for 21 years) and loves every minute. She began
the After School Program which has been up
and running for 11 years. Ms. Harrigan is an
institution at Our Lady of Mercy, and helps
bring out the best in every student who walks
through her classroom door.

The LEARN Center is dedicated to teaching
students the skills required to safely operate
a variety of heavy equipment construction
machines. At the present time, these include skidsteers,
backhoes, excavators, front-end loaders,
and bulldozers. The shop is used for instruction
pertinent to the maintenance of the machines
as well as for instruction pertaining to the
components of the machines, checking and filling
of fluids, greasing of the pivot points and trouble
shooting. There is approximately 20 pieces of
heavy equipment, construction materials and
construction equipment (signage, slings, wire
rope, etc.). The practical classes are “hands-on”
tailored to the particular machine and student.
