Over Two Bridges EXPLORE 22 | BOROMAG.COM | OCTOBER 2014 Over two bridges and twenty miles away sits a sleepy little town named Nyack. Their motto, Art and Soul on the Hudson, may seem a bit trite, but don’t let that deter you from the ideal day trip from Queens. Within miles of driving over the RFK Bridge with the windows down, the air smells cleaner, the leaves have started to change, and Queens feels very far away. Recently, the town has been seen as Mapleton in the HBO series, The Leftovers, and also in the Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader film, The Skeleton Twins. What to Do Visit the Edward Hopper House Art Center. The center was originally built by Hopper’s grandparents in 1858, and served as his primary residence until 1910. After his death, the community banded together and restored the house. There are pieces of his artwork throughout the home, and some original custom furniture. The art center rents out some of the bedrooms as artist studios throughout the year. Fans of Hopper’s work will enjoy the glimpse of history and seeing his artwork up close. 82 North Broadway, Nyack, NY 10960 www.edwardhopperhouse.org What to See The village of Nyack takes up 1.6 miles, half of which is along the Hudson River. Stone Native American relics found along the Hudson reveal this was a favorite fishing spot back in the day. Wander through town down by the water and relax by beautiful views of mountains and the water. We stopped by the Nyack Municipal Marina, Story & Photos By Lizabeth Nieves
