32 I BOROMAG.COM I APRIL 2016 THE ARTS #QNSMADE Story by Hayley Bridgewater As a long time resident of Astoria, I have always enjoyed chatting with the locals about the ever-evolving nature of our diverse neighborhood. Though there will always be subjects that will cause debate about our changing community, one thing that we are quick to embrace is a recent formation of an artist’s collective – a bonding of area craftspeople and creators excited to claim the “QNSMade” label. This April, I am thrilled to continue to shine a light on small businesses working to bring you handmade, unique, and quality goods crafted with heart and a true love for Queens. Founded by Flushing native, Amy Wu, the goal of QNSMADE is to give a voice to the people who make up the fabric of our beautiful borough. 2.3 million people call Queens home, speaking 138 languages in over 125 different neighborhoods. Here are just a handful of the artists who prove that Queens is much more than merely a suburb of Manhattan. www.qnsmade.co
