 City offi cials cut the
 ribbon on the offi cially
 renamed and renovated
 Lew Fidler Park in
 Sheepshead Bay, following
 a $6.1 million renovation
 funded by the late
 former councilman along
 with the mayor’s offi ce.
 Family and friends of
 Fidler, who passed away
 in 2019 and formerly represented
 Marine Park
 and Sheepshead Bay in
 the City Council, gathered
 at the newly-opened
park on Nov. 9 to offi cially
 christen the greenspace
 on Emmons Avenue near
 Brighams Avenue.
 “This brand-new
 greenspace is a valuable
 resource for the community,”
  said Brooklyn
 Borough Parks Commissioner
 Marty Maher.
 “More importantly, by
 bearing the name Lew
 Fidler, it honors the legacy
 of a man who funded
 this project, uplifted his
 community, and was an
 agent for change as he
 worked to serve the people
 of Brooklyn.”
 The newly renovated
 park, formerly known as
 Brigham Park and Playground,
  abuts the Sheepshead
 Bay inlet, and
 features a playground,
 spray showers, picnic areas,
  passive seating areas,
  and more. Construction
 on the playspace was
 offi cially wrapped over
 the Spring of this year
 following roughly two
and a half years of work.
 Fidler, who in addition
 to serving on the council
 served as a district leader,
 worked in borough hall,
 and served as president
 of Brooklyn College’s hillel
 also recently had the
 intersection of Avenue
 R and Haring Street conamed
 in his honor.
