Cops seek three teens
in Coney Island robbery
BY CHANDLER KIDD
Police are searching for the pistolpacking
teens who robbed two men in
Coney Island on June 24, according to
authorities.
The three teenage thieves approached
the 36- and 41-year-old victims
on W. 17th Street asking for cash
at 6:36 p.m., when, after the men refused
to fork over their cash, one of the
teens attempted to reach into one of
their pockets, cops said.
As the victim resisted, one of the
kids pulled up his shirt to display a
pistol tucked into his waistband, persuading
the older men to hand over
$20, according to authorities.
The teenagers, believed to be between
15 and 17 years old, took the cash
and fl ed south along W. 17th Street, police
said.
One teen was last seen wearing a
black and white hooded jacket, black
pants and black sneakers. The other

snapped off, falling over the fence of a
nearby residential property, but causing
no appreciable damage.
In Sunset Park, 30-foot-tall tree
came down at about 7:11 p.m., according
to a spokesman for the Fire Department.
The tree damaged two parked
cars, boropark24.com reported .
On the bright side, Saturday’s treepocalypse
claimed no human victims,
according to New York’s Bravest.
Weather reports show that wind
speeds rose up to 39 mph in the greater
New York City at about 2 p.m., with
gusts surging up to 54 mph. The borough
witnessed a resurgence of wind at
about 5 p.m. and throughout the night,
with gusts up to 23 mph. The storm
included a dramatic drop in temperature
from 91 degrees to 72 degrees in
the early afternoon, as a well as a brief
spurt of rain and thunder.
Kings County residents are no
stranger to the perils of falling trees,
which withered in their thousands
as a result of Hurricane Sandy’s 2012
tidal surges, forcing the city had to
cull thousands of the so-called “zombtrees”
after a collapse in Coney Island
nearly claimed a man’s life.
