32 BEST OF BROOKLYN 2021 • VOTERS GUIDE • BESTOFBK.COM
The best businesses Brooklyn has to offer convened at Brooklyn Brewery on the evening
of February 26th during Schneps Media’s annual Dime Best of Brooklyn VIP winners
celebration.
This year, 376 businesses won the distinguished Dime Best of Brooklyn title in the annual
contest where thousands of local companies and professionals compete to be first-place winners
in a myriad of different categories.
Enjoying cocktails, fine hors d’ouevres, a buffet-style dinner,
and tunes courtesy of Xtreme Entertainment, business owners set
up booths to showcase their bites, services, and – most importantly
– customer service, according to one candy maker.
“It’s all about the relationships you get to forge with people and the
customers, which expands into the notion of family, which you do not get with large businesses,”
said “Best Chocolatier” winner Michael Rogak, owner of JoMart Chocolates.
Educators representing St. Bernadette Catholic Academy, named Dime Best of Brooklyn’s “Best
Catholic School,” joined the party, where one faculty member gave thanks for the community’s
nearly seven decades of support.
“We have been in... Dyker Heights for 67 years, and we’ve been blessed with the fact our families
continue to enroll in our school as we offer the best education possible,” said Maria Lubach,
advancement director at St. Bernadette.
Foodies voted Prospect Heights eatery Cheryl’s Global Soul “Best Soul Food of 2020”, and
restaurateur Cheryl Smith offered tasting samples of perfected comfort favorites like chicken wings
and mac ‘n cheese for her fellow honorees. She had worked as a chef for years before opening up
a bistro of her own, and said there’s no prouder achievement than going into business for yourself.
“Small businesses are the heart and the blood of the community,” she said.
“Best Candy Store” winner Choc Oh Lot Plus also sweetened up the occasion by treating
partygoers to chocolate lollipops and other sugary delights.
Steve Miley, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Dime Community Bank, said that working
with and helping to support local businesses was his pride and joy.
“Dime has been supporting the local community and business, it is how the community grows and
how the community thrives,” said Miley. “Working with a bank that understands what your plans
are today and in the future is important – it has to be a relationship where we are in it as partners.
