The Italian Cultural Association
of New York Honors Vietnam Veterans
Cav. Tony DiPiazza, Chairman of the Italian Cultural Assoc. announced that “Awards
would be presented to Leaders of the American Legion Continental Post 1424, together
with Donations.” He continued, “I am proud to present our “American Patriot” Award to
Tom Long, Commander & Bruce Hadley Vice Commander of Continental Post 1424,
American Legion, together with a donation of $500 which was made by Joseph Ficalora
of NYCB to Vietnam Vet Bruce Hadley, an American Legion member for more than 50
years and a donation of $1,000 to Commander Tom Long for presentation to the
Queens County American Legion.
Veterans Hadley and Long expressed their appreciation on behalf of the Veterans to
the members of the I.C.A. at a Memorial Day Dinner and Ceremony, I.C.A. Chairmen Cav.
Tony DiPiazza, Honorary Chairmen Cav. Serphin Maltese and N.Y. Community Bank
President, Joseph Ficalora, a Vietnam Veteran who made a $500 donation. Commander
Long continued, “The $1,000 gift will be given to the Queens County American Legion to
be used for our fellow veterans at St. Albans Veterans Hospital for field days, cookouts,
and their July 4th barbeques.”
Former Senator Maltese was prime sponsor of the Legislation that created St. Alban as
a State Veterans Hospital. Cav. Tony DiPiazza stated that “it was appropriate that their
Italian American Cultural Association should recognize Vietnam Vets and all Veterans
since all Americans owed so much to our Veterans who had defended and protected
our great nation and our way of life with so many making the ultimate sacrifice.”
