Queens Satellite wins title in a rout
Royals use electric offense, stifl ing defense to clinch Multiple Pathways championship
BY ROBERT COLE
The Queens Satellite Royals
used a second-half offensive
outburst, coupled with a
lockdown defense, to capture
their first Multiple Pathways
League Boys B Division
Basketball Championship with
a 75-45 victory over Brooklyn
Frontiers High School.
“This has been seven years in
the making,” said Royals Coach
Bill Whittaker. “These kids
have really bonded together,
really worked hard, and they
worked so well with each other
communicating and they really
have a love for the game. It was a
real pleasure working with this
crew.”
Both teams showed their
nerves early in the game,
mixing turnovers with missed
shots, before each team warmedup
three minutes into the
first period. Queens Satellite
went on an 11-4 run during
this period thanks in part to
Antonio Mitchell, whose nine
first quarter points helped the
Royals claim an 18-15 lead at the
end of the first quarter.
Mitchell stayed hot and
scored the first four points
in the second quarter, giving
the Royals a seven-point
advantage at 22-15. Brooklyn
Frontiers would pull within
one point at 22-21 before
baskets by Compton Mcaddley,
Tyler Young, and Kareem
Louis put Queens Satellite
back up by six.

Mcaddley paced the Royals,
sending them into the half
with a 37-31 lead.
Queens Satellite came out
in the second half with an
aggressive defense, holding
Brooklyn to just seven points
in the third quarter. The
defense allowed the offense to
open a commanding 14-point
lead behind seven points from
senior Vincent Green.
Starting the fourth
quarter with a 51-39 lead,
the Royals would continue
to put defensive pressure on
Brooklyn Frontier, allowing
only six points in the final
period. They finished the
game on a 24-6 run.
Mitchell, who led all scorers
with 30 points, was proud of
the way his team performed
defensively.
“We just acted like we were
losing and we kept our defense
the same, that’s all we cared
about, just defense,” he said.
Young scored 16 for the
Royals, while Green added 11.
“This crew has seen a lot
of ups and downs,” Whittaker
said. “We had a lot of struggles
two to three years ago, and
there are some seniors who
are graduating this year that
I am so happy for, because it’s
their work, how well they work
together with each other, how
they came together. I have a
front row seat at watching
something beautiful.”
Mitchell said he was
thrilled his team clinched the
championship.
“This feels great,” he said.
“It took us three years to
finally get here, through our
ups and downs, but we finally
did it.”
