 LOOKING FORWARD
 TO 2021
We’ve heard so much about what a horrible
year 2020 has been — and make no
 mistake, it has been horrible.
 The coronavirus, social unrest,
protests, political divisions, economic strife —
there is little redemption for 2020, and all of us
will look back on it with varying degrees of anguish.

We live in a dark period, and in darkness, despair
too easily sets in. Yet there remains room
for light and hope, particularly in this city, as
we have much to look forward to in the year
ahead — even as we cope with the very difficult
 present before us.
For one thing, COVID-19’s grip upon our city,
country and world, while still too awfully tight,
 is slowly loosening.
Vaccines — a miraculous feat developed at
record speed with the advent of science and the
marvels of human ingenuity — are finally beginning
 to be administered.
The crisis is far from over; we must all continue
to be careful, smart and safe.
But each person vaccinated brings us a little
closer to the end of this horrific tragedy — and
not a return to normalcy, but rather a return to
life as each of us wants to lead it.
The streets of our city will become busy again.
Businesses will reopen in full; those businesses
that didn’t survive the year will be succeeded by
others that will survive decades. The economy
 will roll once more.
But we also look forward toward the rebuilding
of New York as a more equitable city. This
year has brought to the fore the long-ignored issues
 of inequality.
The effort to end disparity in New York City
has only begun; it won’t be completed in a year
or a few years, but it must continue.
We also have a new ally in President-elect
Biden, who takes office on Jan. 20. We hope he
gives this city the help it needs to rebuild — and
that those who work to undermine him because
Trump lost will have a change of heart, and respect
 the will of the people.
Our wish for you as we head into 2021 is
peace, health and happiness, now and in the future
 — and that we take care of ourselves and
 each other.
  HOW TO REACH US

 HELP MAKE 2021 A BETTER
The new year is upon us,
 and it couldn’t come soon
enough, as 2020 will be remembered
 as a very sad
and difficult time in our country’s
 history.
This year has been laced with
too much sadness and is a year
most of us would rather forget.
We’ve had to battle the COVID-
 19 pandemic, which has caused
the deaths of more than 300,000
men and women and young and
old — and the total is still rising.
But we now have a number of vaccines
that may end this virus in
 2021.
In 2020, we had political unrest
 and racial disharmony, not
to mention attacks on our city’s
 finest.
In the past year, millions of
Americans are out of work due
to the pandemic. Because of that,
 many American families are hungry
 and in need of help.
 My suggested New Year’s resolution
is to extend acts of kindness
and love. This can be done
by donating to local food pantries
 and donating blood.
 Might I also suggest everyone
 check on their elderly neighbors
and see if they need anything?
Now, how about saving lives? If
we all wear masks, practice social
 distancing and routinely get
tested for COVID-19, we can all
 protect each other.
 I know these resolutions are
doable. I know this for a fact because
my wife and I have done it.
I am the Grand Knight of St.
 Anastasia Knights of Columbus
in Douglaston and my council has
 donated funds to Commonpoint
 Queens in Little Neck.
Please do what you can to help
make 2021 a better year for us all.
In closing, let me extend best
 wishes to President-elect Joe
Biden in hopes he will do right for
 all Americans in 2021.
