My children Josh and
Elizabeth created the
World’s Fare food festival
and are running the food
tent — a warm, indoor space at
the extraordinary magical Hello
Panda Festival in the Citi Field
parking lot. Th e Mets are out and
we are in!
My daughter Samantha, her
husband Spencer and my special
grandkids Blake and Morgan
went with me and absolutely
loved it!
Th is time, we came in through
the main entrance and walked
under the canopies of lights to
their “oohs” and “ahs.”
Family night at the
Hello Panda Festival!
We made our way past gigantic
pandas as we entered the warm,
enormous tent that houses food,
beer, wine and merchant vendors.
It was quite the site!
Th ere were so many options
and I chose to try the chicken
empanadas and a crispy thick
pretzel from Knot World. It was
the best pretzel I ever ate!
Th en, I visited my favorite
pickle vendor and brought home
two quarts of perfect sour pickles.
A weird meal was topped
off by doughnuts from Dough,
which serves some of one of the
tastiest, most luscious doughnuts
I’ve had the pleasure of tasting.
Each of my grandchildren
had one and demolished them
in minutes.
Th e kids and I left the food
tent and walked through the
Dinosaur & Animal Kingdom
on our way to the kids tent,
where we found an almost endless
number of pink and white
balls and dozens of kids jumping,
running and throwing balls
at each other with enormous
smiles.
My grandkids joined in and
had a blast, with only one crying
moment when 4-year-old Sloane
fell hard on another child in the
ball pit. But we saw a fast recovery!
Th e expression on their faces
as they jumped with joy is one
that I will remember forever.
Make your own memories at
the Hello Panda Festival, which
is open from 5 to 10 p.m. every
evening until Jan. 26. You’re
going to love it!
