On Dec. 1, Santa Claus stopped by Community United Methodist Church in Middle Village for the community’s annual tree lighting sponsored by the Middle Village Chamber of Commerce and the Middle Village Property Owners and Civic Association. Maspeth residents made the season bright during the Maspeth Chamber of Commerce’s tree lighting on Dec. 4, which featured performances by members of Song-and-a-Dance School and a visit from Santa Claus. Woodhaven had two opportunities to welcome in the holiday season during the weekend, with a tree and menorah lighting on Dec. 4 followed the next morning by the annual “Welcome Santa to Woodhaven Parade” along Jamaica Avenue. The Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation hosted both events. Finally, on Dec. 6, the Kiwanis Club of Glendale celebrated the holidays in grand style during its tree lighting at the Glendale Memorial Triangle. The Kiwanis Club stepped in to save the occasion after its previous sponsor lacked the resources to continue it.
