for breaking news visit www.qns.com NOVEMBER 17, 2016 • The CourieR SUN 51 sports Young BWG teams come up big in weekend games Last weekend the younger Blau Weiss Gottschee (BWG) teams competed in their respective leagues. In the New York City Football Club (NYCFC) league, the 2007, 2006 and 2005 teams traveled to TSF Academy in Wayne, NJ. The 2007s won one game and lost one game; 2006s won both games; and 2005s won one and tied the other game. All the BWG teams displayed good soccer skills, ball movement and possession skills at their young age. In the USSF Academy league, the BWG 13s and BWG 14s tied against Met Oval 1-1. As most of the college teams are completing their 2016 season, two alums from BWG were selected to their Conference All-Rookie teams. In the Big East, Dylan Neils from Georgetown and in the MAAC, Conor McGlynn from Siena. In the professional ranks, David Diosa from the New York Cosmos and alumni of GWG soccer, successfully completed the NASL season, winning the championship on penalty kicks against Indy Eleven. Photo by Joseph Swift Christ the King Lady Royals win 6th Brooklyn/Queens Division 1 title The Christ the King High School Lady Royals varsity soccer team defeated Kennedy Catholic 2-1 at College Point Soccer Park on Nov. 2 to claim their sixth consecutive Brooklyn/Queens Division 1 title and its second New York City title.
