The unidentified victim was hit by a black Mercury Mountaineer driven by a 42-year-old woman as he crossed in the crosswalk. The man was taken to Jamaica Hospital via EMS where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Mountaineer remained at the scene. The NYPD’s Highway Patrol Collision Investigation Squad is conducting the investigation. 108th Precinct LIC, Sunnyside and Woodside Sunnyside teen killed skateboarding while holding onto truck On Thursday, September 26, an 18-year-old skateboarder was killed while taking a ride on the side of a truck. Alexander Ciszewski was holding onto the passenger side of the truck while it was driving down 47th Avenue near 32nd Place around 11:30 a.m. when he lost control and fell underneath the rear wheel of the vehicle, said police. Ciszewski, a Sunnyside resident, was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police are looking for the truck driver involved in the accident. His vehicle is described as a white 2005 GMC box truck. Teen pedestrian killed by hit-and-run driver Luis Bravo was walking on Broadway at 58th Street when a car driving by struck and killed him. On Saturday, September 28 around 11 p.m., police responded to a 9-1-1 call of a car accident involving Bravo, 19, police said. Upon arrival, officers found Bravo unconscious and unresponsive, with severe trauma. He was takento Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver, traveling southbound on Broadway in a dark colored sedan, fled the scene. There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing. A community commissioner Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly joined the 104th Precinct Council meeting on Tuesday, September 24 to witness the swearing in of the organization’s new board of leaders. Kelly gave a speech thanking the 104th Precinct for a great job in policing the neighborhoods of Maspeth, Glendale, Ridgewood and Middle Village, and also commended the Glendale Civilian Observation Patrol (GCOP) for being a model volunteer community watch group. GCOP presented Kelly with a street sign and local officials Senator Joe Addabbo and Councilmember Elizabeth Crowley shared some kind words for Kelly’s handling of the NYPD for more than a decade. In the wake of charging the six with unlawfully running a gambling operation, detectives recovered six guns, including two assault rifles, hundreds of narcotics pills, gambling records and the cash, said District Attorney Richard A. Brown. In February, the NYPD’s Queens Narcotic Division began an investigation of an illegal gambling operation being run out of a central wire room in Brooklyn. The wire room allegedly maintained a number of fax machines that received betting slips from over 30 betting parlors throughout Queens, Brooklyn and Nassau County. Saul Montalvo, 44, of Ozone Park and his partner, Juan Arias, 41, of the Bronx are accused of opening and running the operation. Montalvo’s sister, Veronica, also allegedly headed the gambling joint. A second wire room was discovered in Woodhaven, according to the DA. Montalvo and his wife Beatriz Velez, 33, were charged with various counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a firearm, stolen property, promoting gambling and possession of gambling records. Montalvo and his son, Daniel, were charged additionally in a gambling case, and Daniel was arrested and charged with various counts of criminal possession of a weapon. The three each face up to 15 years in prison if convicted on the weapons charges, according to officials. During a search of Montalvo’s Lafayette Street home, police recovered over 200 prescription pills, loaded pistols and thousands of dollars in cash from a safe inside the master bedroom’s closet. Police also found two loaded assault rifles as well as three other magazines all loaded with over 10 rounds of ammunition, all found in the home’s laundry area.
